Anthropology Terms

Transculturation

Definition: Transculturation is the action of cultural transformation, by the entry of new cultural elements, and the loss or adaptation of pre-existing elements.

Example 1: When the Europeans colonized North America, they brought with them a lot of their European values.

Example 2:  American values and traditions are spreading through the internet, so around the world things like how people dress and the food we eat in America, are seen in other places.

Ethnography

Definition: The scientific study and description of individual peoples and cultures' customs.

Example: When people look at a person on social media status. For example how much money they make or the analytics of that person's followers.
